Built for the rhythm of independent work
Mo Kimloc began with a simple observation: income that arrives in irregular bursts needs a different kind of financial visibility than a steady paycheck ever did. We set out to build the tools that independent professionals actually need between projects — not generic budgeting software adapted after the fact.
Why we started Mo Kimloc
Freelancers, consultants, and contract-based professionals told us the same thing over and over: spreadsheets couldn't keep up with the unpredictability of their income, and mainstream finance apps assumed a regularity that simply didn't apply to their work.
We built Mo Kimloc to close that gap — combining historical earnings patterns, upcoming commitments, and plain-language reporting into a single place where independent professionals can actually see what's coming, not just what already happened.
The product has grown since, but the starting point hasn't changed: give people who work for themselves the same clarity that larger organizations take for granted.
Clarity between projects, not just after them
Our mission is to help independent professionals manage the gaps in their income with the same confidence they bring to their actual craft. We believe financial visibility shouldn't be a side project — it should be built into the way you already work.
What we focus on
-
1
Forecasting, not just trackingLooking ahead at what income is likely to arrive, rather than only recording what already has.
-
2
Plain-language reportingNumbers presented in a way that's useful during a slow month, not just at tax time.
-
3
Respect for irregular workDesigning around the reality of project-based income instead of forcing it into a nine-to-five template.
What that means in practice
Every feature we build gets measured against one question: does this help someone make a better decision the next time their income dips or their pipeline fills up? If it doesn't contribute to that, it doesn't make it into the product.
That discipline keeps Mo Kimloc focused on a narrow, well-defined problem rather than trying to be a general-purpose finance app for everyone.
The principles behind how we build
These aren't aspirational posters on a wall — they're the standards we hold ourselves to when deciding what to build next and how to build it.
Transparency by default
We show our reasoning, not just a final number. If a forecast changes, we explain why — so trust is earned through visibility, not asserted through confidence.
Built around real work patterns
We design for the way independent income actually behaves — in bursts, delays, and seasonal swings — rather than smoothing it into something it isn't.
Restraint over noise
We'd rather ship fewer features that genuinely help than clutter the product with dashboards that look busy but add little.
A small, focused group
Mo Kimloc is built by a compact team that works closely with the independent professionals who use the product every day. Rather than listing titles, we'd rather be judged by what we build and how carefully we build it.
Shaped directly by conversations with freelancers and consultants about where their forecasts broke down in real life.
How we work
We stay close to the people who rely on Mo Kimloc between projects. Decisions about what to prioritize come from recurring patterns in how independent professionals actually manage their income gaps — not from assumptions made in isolation.
As the team grows, that proximity to real usage is the one thing we're committed to protecting.
